As of more recent versions of Objective C the @synthesize declaration is no longer necessary.

Intro:
There is a shortcut that allows you to do the following 4 things in one step:

  1. Make the @property declaration for a UI element in your .h file.
  2. Make the corresponding @synthesize declaration.
  3. Set the pointer to nil in the “viewDidUnload”
  4. Make the connections to the referencing outlets in the Connections Inspector.
